Max's Review

A year after the invasion of Spacegodzilla, Birth Island, home of Godzilla and his adopted child, is destroyed by nuclear fission in the uranium reserves beneath it. Shortly afterwards, Godzilla reappears, glowing red as the nuclear reaction inside him overloads, threatening to destroy the earth. Meanwhile, in Tokyo Bay, a new breed of monster emerges…
Personally, I consider this to be one of the best Godzilla films to date. The plot thunders along with barely a dull moment, the monsters are powerfully portrayed and given a great deal of character, Ifukube’s music is as brilliant as ever, and apart from a few occasional flaws, the special effects are excellent.
In the end, these minor visual blemishes and a few weak plot points are all that prevent this film from becoming masterpiece. As it is, Godzilla vs Destoroyah is still a magnificent conclusion to the Heisei series, and my personal all-time favourite Godzilla film.

Max’s verdict: 9/10
